Stomach Churning

It was a bright and beautiful morning on Bianca’s birthday. Bianca woke up to a great start for her 15nth birthday, she got to choose her own breakfast! Her big sister’s present was a iphone 4s, now that she was old enough to have one. Bianca was really happy, she couldn't believe she finally has an iphone. Bianca’s grand parents brought her a big birthday cake and the number 15 for Bianca’s candle. Bianca didn’t know she was getting a huge birthday cake, it was a surprise! Mum and dad’s present to Bianca was taking her and her friends to Rainbows End. She was so excited!

On their way to Rainbows End they picked up Bianca’s best friends Mary and Lucy. First Bianca and her best friends went to ride on the roller-coaster for the first time! They all had butterflies in their stomach when they sat on their seats waiting for the rollercoaster to start.

As the roller-coaster started spinning Bianca felt like she was going to puke. She looked over to her friends, they looked like they were having the best time of their life!" Oh no there a curves ahead", Bianca shouted. Luckily Bianca past the curves safely and fortunately she didn't spew up during the ride!

It's Not A Haunted House After All!

It was a dark and scary night in our new house.  Everybody was asleep except for me.  I couldn't sleep because I wasn't comfortable in a big wide house.  Suddenly, I heard the door squeak open. The noise of footsteps went louder and louder as it was heading towards my room. I could see a shadow of a man coming closer and closer and again, it felt like it was heading towards my room.

I was really scared and horrified that I wanted to run to my parent's room but if I did I’ll be running into the man.  Instead of running, I hid under my blanket and hoped the man wouldn't find me.

I could hear him taking off his shoes at the door of my room. “Why should he take off his shoes, a scary  man would not listen to a sign that I wrote up saying please take off your shoes before you enter?” I had a feeling that it wasn't a scary man, I came out of my blanket and looked at who it was.  It wasn't a horrifying man after all, it was my dad! “Whew” I was relieved! “Afterwards I have a long story to tell dad”.

Smoking, Not My Future

It is popular in the world that smoking should be banned because it is dangerous for your health. I feel that smoking is harmful, it can damage every organ in your body or it can cause death!

Compared with nonsmokers, smokers are more likely to catch these diseases, Coronary heart disease 2 to 4 times more, Stroke by 2 to 4 times, men developing lung cancer by 23 times and women increasing lung cancer by 13 times.

It is known that non- smokers may suffer health effects if they spent long periods of time with people who do smoke.

There are a lot of people out there who smoke and I hope they quit one day. I think that the world will be a better place without cigarettes, however it is your decision to make.
I will never ever smoke in my future after knowing all the effects and health risk’s it can cause!

Although in sadness three New Zealanders Luke Tamatea, Richard Harris and Jacinda Baker has been killed by an attack of an roadside bomb. What is a roadside bomb? A roadside bomb is a improvised explosive device (IED).

Unfortunately kiwis Rory Malone and Pralli Durer were killed on the 4th of August during an ambush in Bamyan. That means there has been Ten New Zealanders killed in Afghanistan now!

John Key announces that  New Zealand Soldiers have been in that area since 2003 and it is fortunate that they will be brought back home in about next year on April.

Not So Bad After All!

Last week on Friday was  our school Cross Country, the worst event of my life. I have never liked  Cross Country but I had no choice but to run the long course. Here goes nothing!

READY STEADY GO!!!!!!!!!!!!! And the year 7 & 8 12 year old girls stormed down the field like a group of hungry predators chasing their prey. The field was really muddy and slippery that It felt like I was going to fall, lucky I kept my balance and carried on running. There were staff members standing at parts of the course cheering us on and helping us to keep on going. As I passed Miss Walters she was encouraging me by saying “go Mary”, that urged me to put some of my effort into the race. I stopped on the bridge and took a deep breath then power walked along the path of the Pt England Reserve. My shoes were really muddy! When I saw that I was getting closer to the finish line I ran until I finished the cross country track. All I wanted to do is finish it off properly, it wasn't so bad after all!

My Two Best Friends

Do you have best friends that are very complex? Well if you do this is a great story for you!
Having two very best friends isn’t always easy. They fall out - we fall out. They are in a bad mood - we are all in a bad mood. Today was no different but for the fact that I was leaving forever my two best friends didn’t know what to do without me.

This morning I walked over to school with Charlotte and Kathryn, my two best friends. I knew they were still thinking about stopping me from going to Australia but they wouldn’t tell me. While we were strolling to school, I asked them if they were bothered about anything. Their response was “of course not why would we have something bothering us”. I was so sure that their words weren't true so I refused about what they said and asked them again. This time their response was different. They admitted that they didn’t want me to go. I replied to them and said “I agree with you I really don't want to leave you or New Zealand, I know that every minute I’m at Australia I will always remember my experience here.” At that moment I knew I belonged in New Zealand with my two best friends so I decided to ask my parents if we could stay.

The next morning I woke up and went to have breakfast. Mum saw my deprest face so she asked me if I was alright. I replied and said “mum if I don’t want to leave New Zealand and go to Australia will you and dad stay with me”, “of course dear why didn’t you tell me” mum said. I was relieved that it was easy to ask her and happy that we weren’t leaving anymore. I couldn't wait to spread the news to Charlotte and Kathryn!!!!

Nature Or Nurture

What do you think makes a good athlete? I think that physical skills like flexibility and Endurance makes a person successful at sports as well as someone that has allot of energy and independence. People that have lots of courage, desire and determination can also succeed in sports.

“Here's a good athlete Mark Spitz”. Spitz was born in Modesto, California. He was a expert in the art of swimming, in fact he started swimming at the age of two! When he became 10 years of age, he was recognised as one of the best swimmers in the world at just the age of 10. 2 years later he won five gold medals at the 1967 Pan American Games and planted claim to ten world records.

Mark Spitz showed confidence in his talent, he now took on his challenge in the Olympic Games, winning six gold medals held in Mexico when he was 18. He won nearly every competition on his way to an Olympic return. As he won these events he broke and set new records preparing for the ultimate challenge at the Munich Olympics. Spitz was determined to win 6 gold medals he arranged for himself.
When the Munich games started in 1972, Spitz was ready to back up his claim. He did it in great style indeed. Not only was he able to win 6, but he won seven gold medals. He won every event while setting a world record in each.
Mark Spitz was only 22 when he won his gold medals but after the Munich games, he retired from swimming. In 1991 however Spitz tried to make a comeback in swimming.

My Gold Medal

I have received another gold medal for completing activities at the right time. I am proud of myself for finishing of my work and I am hoping for another gold medal!

I won a gold medal

I have been given a gold medal from Mr Harris for archiving my school work so far.

Nadia Elena Comaneci

Nadia Elena Comaneci is a well known gymnast who scored a perfect ten. She was born November 12th 1961 in Onesti, Romania. Many are remembering Nadia as the perfect ten because of that moment of her wonderful experience. Usually it is described to something that people would regard as any circumstances. The perfect setting, the perfect presentation, the perfect score, everything about a perfect ten is really perfect.

Like most Gymnast's her life as a gymnast started at a very young age. Nadia first participated in gymnast when she was about six years old. After she scored the perfect ten she went on to win a number of medals in gymnastics with Romanian team mates throughout Europe, Asia and America. Nadia managed to accumulate an impressive nineteen scores in her competitions leading up to her participation in the Olympic Games.

Nadia Elena Comaneci has inspired many young gymnasts and continues to support and train gymnasts from her home in Oklahoma. While she may never accomplish what she did in the 1980 Olympic Games, this will always be considered as "The" Perfect Ten in the Olympic History.

Reach For Your Goal

You're good, but you're going to be great. You're the best, but you're going to get better and better. Sometimes the paths we take are long and hard, but remember this always those are always the ones that lead to the most beautiful views. Challenges come along inevitably: how you respond to them determines who you are - deep down inside - and everything you're going to be. Increase the chances of reaching your goals by working at them gradually. The very best you can do is all that is asked of you.

Realize that you are capable of working miracles of your own making. Remember that opportunities have a reason for knocking on your door, and the right ones are there for you to take. You don't always have to win, but you do need to know what it takes to be a winner. It's up to you to find the key that unlocks the door to a more fulfilling life. Understand that increased difficulty brings you nearer to the truth of how to survive it and get beyond it.

Cross your bridges. Meet your challenges. Reach out for your dreams, and bring them closer and closer to your heart. Get rid of the "if only's" and get on with whatever you need to do to get things right.  Go after what you want in life, with all the blessings of all the people who care about you. And find out what making your wishes come true really feels like.

Jordyn Wieber Inspires Me

Jordyn Wieber inspires me because she strives to succeed. She is an American artistic gymnast born on the12th of July 1995. She is the 2011 All Around Champion and she will compete at the 2012 Summer Olympics representing USA.

As I was reading an article about Wieber it says that she started her gymnast career at the age of 4. When Jordyn was 11 she competed in the biggest competition of her life, the 2006 Visa national championships. Although Jordyn was the youngest competitor her big tricks set her apart from the others, she came 9th place.

Wieber has had only one coach since she started playing Gymnastics as a little girl, John Geddert. Geddert will be playing a big role right alongside Jordyn because
Jordyn is about to take the biggest step of her life by going to the Londan Olympics as the odds of winning the all around gold medal. She is going for Gold!!

Jordyn Wieber is really good when it comes to gymnastics but that’s because of years of hard work and help from John Geddert and also dedication to the sport she loves.

Solar Plane Completes The Mission Without Any Fuel

Not long ago, a solar plane which is only powered by the sun's rays flew from Switzerland to Morocco for the first time. It was a record for the distance a plane would fly using only Solar power. The plane's wings is covered with solar panels which twists the suns rays into electricity to power the Solar planes blade. In this flying machine was two pilots, Andre Borshberg and Betrand Piccard, Betrand Piccard is also the president CEO of Solar Impulse ,a company with engineers that made this all available. The engineers also built the Solar Powered Plane because their goal was to show that emissions -  free air travel is possible to do.

I think it is a great idea to build a solar powered plane so that when gas and fuel runs out we can use a` solar powered plane for air travel - free!

The Sudden Attack

Every day me and my friend Lydia go exploring for objects to make instruments, we loved playing instruments but it wasn’t always easy to find things to make music out of. This day we were searching for more objects, during the search we saw a cave that looked like it was a great place to find objects to make instruments so we entered the cave. As we entered I stepped on a hard material as I picked it up it was an instrument that was already made by someone. Me and Lydia named it a flute because of the sweet and loud noise it made.

Suddenly we heard a rumble, we turned around to run away but it was too late the rocks already rolled down and blocked the way, it was a cave in. I heard people walking past the cave so I played the flute to see if they will hear it and get us out of the cave. All of a sudden I heard someone shout out if someone is in there, I replied and shouted out “Yes two people can you please get us out of the cave”. They were trying to get us out by moving the rocks with their hands but it didn’t work so they went to call the village to come and help.

They all ran back and tried their best to get the rocks out, suddenly it moved , one single move moved all of the rocks. We were saved!!

Alexander Dale Oen

We are reading about Alexander Dale Oen and how he died. He was a talented swimmer who competed in the London Olympics. The swimmer became a symbol of Resilience and Resurgence to his country, Norway.

It was a sad day when Oen dies suddenly from a cardiac arrest, during a pre - olympic training camp in Flagstaff, Arizona. He was 26.
Dale Oen one of Norway’s biggest hopes of winning a medal was found collapsed on his bathroom floor late and was pronounced dead at the Flagstaff medical center, it was still unclear of what lead him to a sudden cardiac arrest. We are all in shock!

Oscar Claude Monet

Claude Monet is an very artistic artist. I like the way he mixes the colours
together to make a creative and a realistic artwork. Did you know he is one of the most famous artist in the history of arts, his works can be seen in museums around the world.

Oscar Claude Monet was born on November 14, 1840. He was the second son of Claude-Adolphe and Louise-Justine Aubree Monet. On May 20, 1841 he was baptized into the local church parish. As years past his family moved to Le Harvre in Normandy.

Monet past away of lung cancer on December 5, 1926 at the age of 86 and is buried in the Giverny church cemetery, What a tragedy to the people who loved him.

Art Alive

This term we are studying about Art and Patterns. Art Alive is all about how we can perceive artworks in different ways. I prefer to learn more about what the artworks mean when I look at it. Did you know that some people create art with a special meaning or a story about their life? I’m looking forward to studying art and patterns. Maybe I would have time to make one too.

Fortunately I do have time to make an artwork because this term I am focusing on Vincent Van Gogh’s art works and how he became an impressionist artist, because I like his paintings and drawings.

Vincent Van Gogh was an Impressionist, he was known as an famous artist for his brushed paintings and his wonderful work. Vincent Van Gogh’s life began on 30th of March 1853 and ended on 29th of July 1890. Van Gogh suffered from temporal lobe epilepsy as well as other mental and physical conditions. Vincent committed suicide by shooting himself in a wheatfield in Auvers, France but he did not die until 2 days past.

He was a painter who went from Holland to Paris and then the south of France. Gogh sold only one of his paintings before he died but soon became famous after he died because Vincent's brother’s wife collected Vincent paintings and letters after his death and dedicated herself to getting his work the recognition it deserved. Vincent Van Gogh painted about 900 paintings during his life but his first painting he sold was named the Starry Night, no one seemed to by his other paintings. From now on Vincent Van Gogh is an impressionist artist.

The Games That People Play

Sports are so cool, I play Netball. Other people play all kinds of sports, Netball, (Rugby + Rippa-Rugby), Softball, (League + Union), Touch, Basketball, Skateboarding, Skating, Racing, Swimming, Biking or even surfing. My friends play rugby-union-league, touch and Netball as well, I know that's a lot of sports but some of those sports are sports that people love.

Netball is the most physical sport I play, I really want to play netball for the rest of my life but I don't know if I'm good enough. Every Tuesday we have netball training so it makes us fit.

I would really want to try surfing for the first time but I just can’t find a beach in New Zealand that has enough waves for surfing. As I watch surfing programs I always wish to be on a surfboard at the beach having a heap of fun. Sometimes I imagine me with my friends on our own surfboard at the beach but it doesn't come true. My friends thought I was crazy on that day that I told them. Remember if you really want to play a sport and something is holding you back then push it away and keep reaching for that goal!

Reach for your highest point and think about what you are going to do from that point, as it says in proverbs about sports If you aren't going all the way, why go at all and Skill and confidence are an unconquered army. What Physical sport do you play?
Thank you to Emily and Tui for checking my work.

Our Outrageous Camp

Packing my bags anxiously for “camp” made me think about how I couldn't wait for it to happen. All that I can think of is how priceless and charming camp is going to be. On the first day of camp, I was searching for my friends so we can see if we are all sleeping in the same tent. Once we saw that our names were together we were full of joy.

My group name was Respectorz, there were about 24 people in each group. The other group names was Respect Squad, Respect Crew, Team Respecters, Respectronics and Respectables. Every group was talented and amusing but entertaining people was what we were best at.

All the activities that we had was Kayaking, Table Tennis, Skating, Amazing Race, Box Fit, Zumba and cooking. Every day we went to the pools and had a little swim and afterwards a shower, that was one of my favourite highlights because it was refreshing.

Every morning we got up and done some Jump Jam, loads of people didn’t even stretch a muscle. I knew they haven't woken up properly and sometimes I am one of them.

At last in the final day of camp we went on the bus to the Pamure pools, "Swimarama". I was already exited because I knew it will be a Humorous day. "OMG the WARRIORS are here" everyone in the pool were cheering for them, as they are a national league team. I couldn't believe that Manu Vatuvei and Kevin Locke were here unfortunately Kevin Locke couldn't swim because he was sick. GO THE WARRIORS !!

Thank you to Athena for checking my work.

Duffy Theater

Walking Anxiously in the hall I couldn't wait until the Duffy theatre starts.

My favourite part was when Duffy and Scruffy came out and they saw the garage sale. After that Scruffy wanted to play with Duffy, then he said, “But, but Ma’a Nonu’s out there waiting for you.” Suddenly The Best Book in the World (Marvel) was in the box and Duffy saw it. The Best Book in the World (Marvel) was singing a beautiful song. Then Scruffy came to Duffy and said, “You have to play with me know, Piri Wepu is out there hurry up but he was lying.” Then it was Rocky’s birthday, he wanted to have a pirate birthday and the they fell and flew away then they rewind what they did in the beginning then they did the sail and the mast, and they were attaching it together and they never fell after that.

It was a cool Scene.

NetBall

Man it was awesome at netball! The game was played in Pt England school at the netball court. Learning all sorts of skills was tiring but I managed to get there. Netball is familiar for me because I have being playing it for my school for 3 years.

At last we got to play the real game. My position was goal defence. Once our coach Liz blew the whistle I defended my partner the goal shooter. As I reached out for the ball I fell to the ground with my knee scraped onto the concrete, it was painful and it was bleeding so the sub had to take over.

After the game we were exhausted but relieved we were taught how to play it. We thanked our instructor Liz for helping those who didn't know how to play.

Cyber Smart

Are you and your friends safe on the internet? Well if your not safe then be cyber smart. Being cyber smart means that you should know what your going to do before you do it. For example if you want a photo, song, video and other media's Online then make sure you take it legally. On websites like Fakebook you have to be careful of the things you put out in public. Like others do they put out things on Fakebook that is private! Did you know that Mark Zuckerberg made Facebook so people can see all of the story and pictures on your page.

Time at the Beach

Man it was really fun at the beach with all of my relatives. My best cousins came with their parents to have fun with us During the Beautiful weather. Our parents were playing cards while me and my cousins were swimming in the massive fountain. All our big sisters and brothers were diving from my uncles boat, we wanted to go with them but my sister said that if we go we can’t fit inside. Suddenly I forgot about diving because I was having too much fun with my cousins.

The Treaty of Waitangi

The Treaty of Waitangi was first signed on the 6Th of February 1840. It was signed by the British crown and Maori chiefs from the North Island of New Zealand. The Treaty gave the Maori rights of British Subjects and a ownership of their lands and other properties. Copies of the Treaty was taken around New Zealand and over the following months many other chiefs signed it.

I think that it is a good thing that the Treaty of Waitangi was made so everybody can carry it on and make it useful. When I have trouble with friends or family we can make our own little Treaty so it will be all fair. I know that rules were meant to be broken but unless we still had some time together with kindness.
